Finance and Agriculture
In 1961, buying a piece of land at Coimbatore was initiated by Devamatha Province through a joint venture of the following three monasteries: St. Mary’s Monastery, Elthuruth, St. Teresa’s Monastery, Ambazhakkad, and St. Thomas Monastery, Pavaratty. It was a remarkable beginning in our province that gives us a strong background of mutual sharing among our institutions which are generously supporting or willingly sponsoring new ventures as a praiseworthy tradition. This is a major factor in the tremendous growth of the province. The wholehearted cooperation among our members is the primary Capital of the province which is given by the Heavenly Father for the growth of our province.
From the establishment of Little Flower Region to the initial years of the Vice-Province, God specially selected and set some members of the Mother Province as its Financial Backbone. The community was made financially viable even for launching various fields of apostolate by the members like Frs. Malachias Kannanaickal, Callistus Malieckal and Eymard Uruvath who had strong affinity with the agencies and benefactors abroad.
Right from the beginning of the province, education had become the primary field of apostolate. There are some of the educational institutions which financially contribute for the establishment and development of new ventures of the community. The financial support which is extended by our members who are pastors abroad is very praiseworthy.
The province gives importance to farming and agriculture wherever this is possible. The houses like St. Joseph’s Bhavan, Pakulam, Bharatha Matha Ashram, Palakkad, Lisieux Home, Karimba, Sacred Heart Monastery, Perinthalmanna and Carmel Illam, Dharmapuri, are a few examples.
