The Apostolate of Education and Communication

From the beginning, education had become the primary field of apostolate in the Preshitha Province. During the period of Malabar Mission the aided schools were established in Manimooly and Mariapuram under the auspicious of the respective parishes. Even before the formation of the Province, schools were started in Coimbatore, Pollachi, and Palakkad. After the erection of the province schools came up also at Erode, Maruthamalai, Shoranur, Chennai and Kenya. There are 8 schools with about total of 13000 students, 400 teachers and 125 non-teaching staff. Moreover, we have invested a large chunk of our personnel and resources in the field of education.

The educational institutions of the province are working under the auspices of the Little Flower Education Society registered according to the rules and regulations of the Societies Act, in 1972. In higher education further, “Carmelites of Mary Immaculate Education Society” was registered for implementing the activities of the “Lisieux College of Education” which was started at Saravanampatty, in 2007. As an initial step for our mission at Hosur Carmel Educational and Charitable Trust (PPL 9, Act 8, dated 16 July 2008) was formed in 2008.

While imparting quality education, we adopt a holistic approach stressing spiritual outlook and character formation. Our schools maintain a high standard of excellence, both in formation and academic results. Special emphasis is given to quality education to the underprivileged. A substantial share of the fee collection is eschewed as concession to the poor and deserving students. There is a prayer hall attached to all our schools. We train our students in prayer, meditation and yoga. The students are encouraged to imbibe the values of communal harmony. Social exposure programme are also conducted for the students under the guidance of experts to inculcate the value of compassion for the poor. To help the integral formation, counseling has been introduced. Carmel School, Erode offers free computer training programme with the cooperation of the staff and students during holidays. Free tuition is provided at a few centres. Preshitha Communications which was started in 2007 has published some books and audio cassettes. A number of members have made contributions to the print media. Many of our members shine in the composition of songs and producing audio cassettes.
